What is Parcel Collect?

Parcel Collect lets you send eligible parcels to a participating Australia Post Post Office instead of your home address, then collect them when it suits them.

How does Parcel Collect work?

  • The customer signs up for a free MyPost account and receives a 10-digit Australia Post Customer Number (APCN).
  • In MyPost, the customer chooses a Post Office and selects Parcel Collect as the location type.
  • The customer uses the selected Parcel Collect address at checkout.
  • Australia Post notifies the customer when the parcel arrives and it can be collected over the counter.
  • One thing to keep in mind is that it's not possible to transfer parcels waiting to be collected at a Post Office to your Parcel Locker, so it's important to choose the right option from the start!

What are the main benefits of Parcel Collect?

Australia Post highlights four main benefits: access to 4,000+ Post Offices, email and SMS notifications, extended opening hours at participating outlets, and the ability to keep a home address private when shopping online.

How do I choose which Parcel Locker or Parcel Collect address my parcels are sent to?

  • To have parcels delivered to a Parcel Locker or Post Office from your list of saved collection points in MyPost, simply:
  • Provide your full Parcel Locker or Parcel Collect address to the sender of your item, OR
  • When shopping online, at the checkout write your Parcel Locker or Parcel Collect address in the place of your regular address
  • To find your address, log in to MyPost and select ‘Collection points’. Don't forget, you can redirect a parcel to your Parcel Locker or Parcel Collect address through MyPost, too. If this option is available, you’ll see it in your tracking list.  Please note: You need to add each Parcel Locker or Parcel Collect address you want to use to your MyPost account. If you use an address without adding it first, you won’t receive notifications and your parcel may be returned to the sender.

How do I find out what my Parcel Collect or Parcel Locker address is?

  • The customer logs in to MyPost and goes to Collection points. Their three-line address is listed under the Address label.
  • The same address is also included in the confirmation email sent when the location was first added to the account.
  • The customer should always use the full name shown on their verified ID and MyPost account so Australia Post can match the parcel correctly.

How should a parcel be addressed to a Parcel Collect address?

  • Your Parcel Collect address must include your name, 10-digit APCN (Australia Post Customer Number) and the address of your chosen Post Office.

     Here’s the format to follow:

     Name: <First name> <Last name>
     Address line 1: Parcel Collect <10-digit APCN>
Address line 2: <Street address of Post Office>
     Address line 3: <Suburb> <STATE> <Postcode>

     Here’s an example:

     Jane Citizen
     Parcel Collect 1234567890
     Shop W11, 111 Bourke Street
     MELBOURNE, VIC 3000

Don’t forget to include the 10-digit APCN every time you want a parcel delivered to your Parcel Collect address. This 10-digit number – along with your name – is how we check that it’s your parcel.

Where is the closest Parcel Collect or Parcel Locker address?

Australia Post directs customers to its Locations & hours tool. They can search for a convenient address and then filter by Parcel Locker or Parcel Collect. Search for an address – home, work or somewhere else that’s convenient for you – and then choose either ‘Parcel Locker’ or ‘Parcel Collect’ as the type of location you’re looking for.

Collection and notifications

How will I know when my item is ready for collection?

  • When an item is ready to be picked up from a Parcel Collection location or Post Office, you'll receive an email, app or SMS notification (if we have your contact details).
  • The notification will tell you:
  • the date and time your item will be available for pick up
  • the opening hours of the Collection Point
  • When collecting your item, make sure your take suitable ID with you.
  • AusPost app: if you have the AusPost app, we’ll also send app notifications to your mobile phone when your item is ready to collect. You can also track the delivery status of parcels through the app.
  • Collection timeframe: If the item isn’t collected after 5 business days, we’ll send you a reminder notification by email, app, or SMS (if we have your contact details).
  • If the item isn't collected after 10 business days, the item will be returned to sender.

What do I need to collect the parcel?

To collect a Parcel Collect item over the counter, the customer needs their app, SMS or email notification, plus ID.

Can someone else collect an item from the Post Office on my behalf?

  • In most cases, you can nominate someone else to collect a parcel or letter from the Post Office for you.
  • If you can’t make it to the Post Office yourself, you can either:
  • arrange for someone else who lives or works at the delivery address to collect it for you
  • give someone else authority to collect for you. To see the ways you can do this, visit collecting a parcel from the Post Office
  • At the Post Office counter, we’ll ask them to show proof of identity. If the item they’re collecting was sent to a Parcel Collect address or transferred from a Parcel Locker, they’ll also need to show the collection notification email or SMS we sent you. At the counter, they can show the email or SMS – forwarded by you – on their phone, or present a printout of the email.
  • Signature required items
  • In some cases, though, the sender may require that you collect and sign for the item in-person. This means you can’t authorise someone else to collect it for you. If you’re ordering something online, you should be made aware of this when placing your order.

How long do I have to pick up a parcel from a Parcel Collect location?

  • Customers have 10 business days to collect a parcel once it has arrived at the nominated Parcel Collect Post Office.
  • If it is not collected within that timeframe, it is returned to sender.

When can I collect a parcel from a Parcel Collect location?

Post Offices that can be nominated as Parcel Collect locations offer extended opening hours compared to standard Post Office opening times. The extended hours vary according to the outlet.

Eligibility, limits and account requirements

What can be delivered to a Parcel Collect address?

  • Most parcels can be sent to a participating Post Office, as long as they’re below 22kg in weight and less than 105cm in any dimension.
  • Tip: Choose your Parcel Collect location based on the size of your parcels. Send heavier ones to a Post Office with easy parking and lighter ones to a Post Office within walking distance. Your delivery, your choice.

Are there any items that are not suitable for Parcel Collect?

  • Yes. Australia Post says participating Post Offices cannot accept letters and standard mail that fit in a letterbox, Express Post letters, parcels over 22kg, parcels over 105cm in any dimension, items requiring payment on delivery, damaged or unsuitably packaged items, perishables, and items delivered by carriers outside Australia Post or StarTrack.
  • Parcels containing alcohol are only permitted if the customer is 18 or over and has verified their identity and date of birth.

Why does Australia Post verify identity when a Parcel Collect address is registered?

Australia Post says identity verification helps improve security for merchants, identify customers of legal age when alcohol is being delivered, and minimise fraudulent incidents.
